    1. [S934] AA: Conclusion - Name/Relationship, (Date posted to database 20 Oct 2016).
The following document(s) are used for the conclusion for the name Adam Hatton.

Name: The marriage of Molly Hatton to John Clem, consent was given by Adam Hatton, father of Molly Hatton.

The death document of Hannah Hatton list Adam Hattin Mother Sarah Hattin as her parents.

The surname of Hatton is spelled many different ways: Hattin, Hattan, Hatten, Haydon are just some of the ways. I have chosen Hatton as it is how my ancestors have spelled it most of the time.

    2. [S995] AA: Conclusion - Birth, (Date posted to database 7 Dec 2016).
Then year of birth 1731 is calculated from his obit. The obit was printed in 1831 and indicated he was upward of 100 years old. The obit only list him as A. Hatton.

      1810 Census 45+
      1820 Census 45+
      1830 Census 100+ = 1730
      1831 obit 100 = 1731

The place of birth is just a best guess. The first residence for Adam is 1768 in Red Stone. This is located in what is now western Pennsylvania. This area was claimed by both Virginia and Pennsylvania until 1779. The settlers were very opinionated as to who owned the area and war was almost declared in order to solve the boundary line.

[Redstone is the name of a river in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It did not become a township until latter. Adam Hatton must have been one of the early residents of the area. The history of Redstone indicates that the first settler was a George Kroft and that he settled there about 1771. The Township of Redstone was ordered by the December term in 1797. Fayette Co., PA not a county until 1783]

The Virginia - Pennsylvania border was settled about this time. Fayette County could have been claimed by both Virginia and Pennsylvania prior to this time. The permanent Virginia and Pennsylvania border was not made permanent until 1784/1786.

Research needs to be made in both states prior to this time. Many of the records could be in both states.

Authorities: Register, bol. A, p 104. Militia Loan of 1 Apr. 1784 & 30 Mar. 1785. "Public Debt." Records of the Comptroller General at D.P.R.

[The spelling of Adam's name as Aadam I suspect is a typing error.]

[This is a payroll record for 9 days for Adam. Since the state of Pennsylvania had almost no money at this time to pay the men for their service a certificate was issued as a Millitia Loan of 1 Apr. 1784 & 30 Mar. 1785. Adam's certificate was # 3063 and was issued on the 18 Jan 1785.]

[Pennsylvania's money was so devalued during the War that full payment could not be made at that time. As a veteran of the militia, Hatton was not eligible for a military land grant in Pennsylvania. Such grants were limited to veterans of the Pennsylvania Line regiments (Continental Army).]

Little Beaver Pond Creek, maybe Judy Creek, which was probably changed to Hatton Creek.

The first post office to be located in present-day Stanton was established on July 7, 1849 and was named Beaver Pond, because of the settlement's proximity to a small body of water resulting from a beaver dam. In 1852, both the post office and the settlement were renamed Stanton for Richard H. Stanton, who served in Congress from 1849–1855 and later as a U.S. senator.

Adam has passed away prior to this time.
