Birth:  Dec. 1, 1837 Kentucky, USA Death:  Apr. 23, 1917 Kentucky, USA On last Monday morning at eleven o'clock, at the home of her son, Bruce Hiestand, the beautiful life of Mrs. Mary A. Hiestand came to an end. Her sweet spirit returned to God who called her to rest from the labors and toils of her earthly life, aged 80 years, and the gentle mother whose endearing care for her loved ones became a memory to last in the minds of her children and friends. Her example as a mother and friend will be emulated and hallowed as long as the memory of her dear life shall last. Mrs. Hiestand was above all things a Christian, pure gold, so to speak, proven by tests of suffering and time and when it came her time to answer her Master's call she was ready, and with the sweet resignation of a child of God she answered, "Here am I .. Oh Lord, I have finished my fight, I have kept the faith and am ready." Her death was not a death, for when what we call death in this world overtook her frail form she just then began to live and her present living is far more sweeter to her soul than the pains of her life here. She had been ill for some eight or ten months but her faith did not waver, always obeying her Master and would often say, "Not my will oh Lord but Thine be done." She was not alone, her Lord and Master was her companion, and when He thought best He gathered her home to be with the loved ones who had gone before. In early life she professed faith in her Lord, and joined the Baptist church, and during her labors in the service of her Master she had always held firm for what He taught and was not ashamed to confess him before the world. Her church, community and large circle of friends feel with the children, the keen pang of sorrow at her going away, but she has left with them a testimony which is sweet and dear. She was a good mother, a mother of the truest type, and one of those whose life, thought, action and impulse is to bring her children in the fear of the Lord and her efforts are crowned with a ripe age, full of service for her Master. She was married to Ferdinand Hiestand and to this union was born 7 children: Mrs. D. O. McGee, Mrs. C. W. Ramsey, Mrs. G. W. Hord, Mrs. Alex Smith, Mrs. J. H. Crittenden, and Messrs. C. V. and Bruce Hiestand, all of whom survive. Mr. Hiestand having preceded her eighteen years ago. On last Monday morning at the home at 9 o'clock her funeral was held conducted by Rev. J. W. Crawley, a life long friend and assisted by Dr. L. C. Kelly, after which all that was mortal of a loving mother, friend and companion was laid to rest by the side of her husband in Hiestand-Chandler cemetery. To the bereaved daughters, sons, grandchildren, and friends we extend our deepest sympathy and may they, through their tears, realize that their loss is mother's gain.
