Bell Place Hawkins Cummins Road This is the first house William Wells and his family lived in when they moved from Bath County. Take the Paris bypass and then the Hawkins Cummins Road is off of this road and goes to the Russell Cave Road in Fayette County. In the church records early to 1936 shows a address for William as RFD 5 Paris Kentucky. He may have just moved here as it also shows an address of Olympia.

    14. [S661] Book: The Shooting at Macabee Hall (BK).
Shooting at Church In the late 1938 to mid 1940's The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints meet in the Maccabee Hall they met in this hall about 5 years. In trying to date this event Bill Wade indicated that Emma Wade was expecting his youngest daughter Ruth Ann. Ruth Ann was born in 1939. Bill Wade also indicated that Violet Wade was about 5 years old. One of Dorthy Wells old boy friends, Presley Walton, caused problems for the church and church members. The night before he had set one of William Wells barns on fire. He was angry because Dorthy had broken off the engagement with him. Once this happened he apparently became a 'Morman' hater and was intent on destroying all Mormons and Wells. He also was building a house for him andDorthy to live in and when she broke the engagement he burnt that house also. He and others came to Maccabee Hall and tore up some of the books of the missionaries but the police indicated that we were just crazy Morman's and did not do anything (NOTE: Brother Wade in his story indicated that maybe he spent some time in jail). Latter he came one Sunday looking for Dorthy. Mollie Wells and Emma Wade talking to Mrs Palmer who was the wife of the man who rented the hall to the church. They spotted the man coming and had Mrs Palmer go to the corner and tell the police that there was going to be trouble. He had a gun and forced Mollie and Emma to go up into the hall. Emma was expecting Ruth Ann at the time. As they got to the entrance of the building Brother Wade came out of the bath room and seen the gun. He said he did not want the man and the gun going into the building where there was several small children so he grabbed the gun. Bill Wade indicated the gun was a 32 automatic. When he grabbed the gun Mollie put a bear hug on the man. The gun went off twice. Once it hit Bill Wade in the foot and the other time it hit the wall. The shot that hit the wall was about two (2) feet from where Violet Wade and Jeannie Wells were standing. Violet was about five (5) years old and Jeannie would be about 7 years old. With the help of Dorthy's new boyfriend and a Mr Anderson they were able to get the gun away from the man. About this time the police arrived and took over. Willard Wells took Bill Wade to the hospital where they cleaned his foot and gave him a tetanus shot. Bill Wade indicated that it had started hurting at this time as it had broken some bones in his foot but hewas going back to church. Willard Wells carried Bill Wade up the steps to the church meeting. At another time the President of the Church attended a meeting in the Maccabee Hall. In lookingat the history I can only find one Maccabee building and that is the Maccabbee Temple which was over the F.W. Woolworths building on main street across from the Fayette County Court House.
